Sunday
February 7th, 2010 It's a nice sunny day today so that is very encouraging as we begin a new week. We are about two weeks away from STARBOOKS, our big literary event on Friday, February 26th, to which all parents are invited. Hopefully, by now all of you already know about it, but you will be receiving your invitation to it this week on Tuesday with the interim report that your child brings home. Thank you SO much for all that you have done and all that you may still do to make this event a big success for your child and for all of us as a group. We are lucky enough again this year to have Starbucks be our partner for this occasion, and they will be providing coffee and hot chocolate. This event takes place in each Lang. Arts teacher's classroom, and parents should plan to attend during their child's normal Lang. Arts class time. For 3rd period that will be from 9:45 to 11:05 a.m. and for 4th period the time would be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. We are all really looking forward to it. It will be the first time that we have posted student work in teacher galleries on the National Gallery of Writing sponsored and monitored by the National Council of Teachers of English. This week the students will be taking a new test which is called the CRCT Full Year Cumulative Diagnostic Test. The test will be given in Science, Math, Language Arts, and Reading. If your child takes World Language each day instead of Reading, then the student will take the Reading portion of this test in their World Language class. This is the first time this test has been given, and hopefully, it will reveal to the teachers those areas in which students are struggling in each content area so that we can focus on those areas prior to the actual CRCT in April. This Wednesday is the school Valentine's Dance to which all three grade levels of students are invited. A permission form was sent home last Monday and must be signed and returned for any student to be able to go to the dance. The ticket cost is $4. and refreshments will be for sale in the cafeteria rotunda area. The dance will be in the gym and will last from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Please remember that if you need to pick up your child from the dance before it ends that you must write a note stating that and the time for pick-up. Otherwise the student will not be released early unless you physically come into the gym and try to find your child, which is often difficult. Interim grade reports will go home this week on Tuesday with your child. There will be many (about 15) important pages of information about various topics attached to the grade report. Please sign and return the grade report by Thursday, February 11th. Finally, there is no school (as you probably already know) on Friday, February 12th nor on Monday, February 15th for Presidents' Holiday. I'm sure that everyone will enjoy having some time away from school for a few days. Lesson Plans for this week are brief due to CRCT diagnostic testing and preparation for STARBOOKS. Please see them below here. Have a good week and a great time on your four day weekend! __________________________________________________ SOCIAL STUDIES: ***Please get map quiz of Latin America signed and returned if not already done. ***Unit 6 Test of Latin America will be returned to students on Monday and we will go over it in class.
