 MS. BOLLES' THIRD GRADE CLASS

Happy New Year!

In math, we are continuing to have weekly quizzes on our multiplication facts. Please help your child study their facts each night. We are also beginning Unit 6 in Everyday Math which focuses on Geometry. We will be studying lines, line segments, rays, parallel and intersecting lines, and different 2D and 3D shapes.

In reading, we have started our flexible groups. We are continuing working in Theme 3. This week's story is "Raising Dragons." Please read the story with your child and have them recall important details. Please help your child study their Spelling and Vocabulary words each week. Also please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes each night and filling in his or her reading log. Reading logs are due every Friday.

In writing, we are starting to learn about how to end our stories with a good ending. We are learning many strategies to make our endings interesting. We will also be doing a scavenger hunt to identify more ending strategies and writing endings using the strategies we have learned.

In Social Studies we are studying about communities. We are learning about the different levels of government and what their responsibilities are. After finishing Unit 1 in Social Studies we will switch to Science and learn about soil properties at the end of January.

Please make sure your child has completed all homework
assignments each night. Also be
sure to sign your child's agenda each night and check for any notes in the agenda.

Please encourage your child to work on PI each night. They should focus on multiplication and geometry skills. In reading, they should focus on comprehension.
