                       Our Kindergarten Newsletter

                         February 6th - 10th

This week in Religion the children will begin Chapter 14: “Hearts Are Good”. (We saved this chapter for the week before Saint Valentine’s Day.) The children will learn that God sent Jesus into this world to show us how to love. We will talk about ways the children can express love like Jesus by their actions. The quote I share with you this week is: “Love one another as I have loved you. By this love you have for one another everyone will know you are My friends.”  :)

      In Reading the children will have fun being introduced to our new Alpha-friend “Queenie Queen” as they learn a silly song and know picture words that begin with the letter Qu sound. This week I will review the High Frequency words: here, is, and, go.  We will continue to read words that contain “short a” and “short i” sounds. Please continue to look over any finished work that comes home so you know the words your child can practice reading at home.

       In Math this week the children will continue to learn specific Math concepts as a preparation for the Terra Nova Tests that will be administrated in March. This week our Math lessons will be selections from Chapter 9 as the children continue to read and write tally marks, identify and count on the value of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Please remember the children do not have to master these skills…we are simply introducing concepts in preparation for Terra Nova Testing.

       Also FYI:

1. In school we have been counting how many days we have been in school. We will do something special on our 100^th day of Kindergarten.

2. This month all three Kindergarten classes will complete our annual February Kindergarten Assessments. I will provide more information about the February Kindergarten Assessments in my next newsletter. Before then I simply remind you to please continue to help your child know his/her birthday and pray The Our Father. (We have been practicing saying the Our Father each day at school.)

      This week Madelyne will be our Star of the Week, Keira will take home our Mystery Bag and Colleen will take Taffy home.  Please remember all decorated Valentine’s Day shoe boxes need to be returned to school this Friday. You can also begin to have your child send in their signed Valentines on Friday too.

No Homework. Enjoy the weekend with your family. :)
