5th grade- . Spelling quiz 16 will be February 10 ( http://www.k12reader.com/spelling/Spelling-Word-List-E-16.pdf). Their long term writing project can be found below. I have been trying to encorporate the theme of "expedition" into their assignments to conincide with history class. With that, students will have a "Nemo" assignment found below (they will view the movie in class). They will also begin their 3rd term journal project (students write a one page journal entry every night M-F). Finding Nemo

1. Briefly summarize Marlin’s expedition to Sydney Australia (it should be no more than 4 sentences). 2. Describe the best event that happened to Marlin during his expedition. 3. Describe the scariest part (for Marlin) that happened during the expedition. 4. Pick two “personified” characters from Finding Nemo and describe* their personalities (how they think and act), not physical traits (what they look like). · Each character description should at least be a six sentence paragraph. 5. Explain who would make a better “explorer”, Marlin or Nemo. Be sure to explain why.
Task: Imagine yourself being a scientist on that first South Pole expedition. Write a three page minimum paper as if you were writing in your journal during your South Pole expedition. Don’t worry about the accuracy of dates; in fact, just write days of the week for headings. See the example below. Tuesday: We have been here for two days and haven’t seen anything but the walruses when we first hopped off the ship! Not that you can really see more than an inch in front of you with this storm. White. Just plain white everywhere you look. As I write this from inside our “camp”, I can hear the wind whipping around like it is yelling at us to leave!
6th grade- Prefix/suffix quizzes will be on Thursdays. News summaries and persuasive paragraphs will be on Wednesdays in which we will utilize TimeforKids magazine. Looking to introduce Tales of the Arabian Nights either this week or next. Journal project (journal entry every night) has begun. Aladdin take home quiz is due Feb 28 (see below). Aladdin Take Home Quiz The following questions are to be answered as completely as possible (use part of the question to start your answer). Be sure to support your answers with examples from the film. This counts for a quiz grade; take it seriously because even a magic lamp will not be able to change your grade.
7th- Roots quizzes will be on Wednesdays. Students will have an in class persuasive essay. Afterwards, we will begin a mini-unit on Urban Legends (student requested). Journal entries are one page every night (M-F).
8th- With third term starting soon, please remember there is a minimum grade requirement of a C- in order to be eligible for the Washington DC trip. We have begun the psyche/sociology intro unit so if you find your child doing or discussing odd things, it may be my fault. Vocab words can be found below. The first set of questions will be introduced soon (see below). Due Feb 2. We will also be exploring Jung's concept of the "collective unconscious". Students will create personal manifestos that are due Feb. 8. (see below). A take home "Searching for Bobby Fischer quiz due Feb. 16. (see below).
