Read 180 is a comprehensive reading program designed to help struggling readers turn their abilities around 180 degrees. The program uses interactive computer software, small group instruction, and engaging, level appropriate reading materials to get kids excited about reading. The Second Chance Alternative Learning Environment (SCALE) program is an alternative learning program that seeks to teach students to change aggressive and inappropriate behaviors and to increase academic achievement through behavior modification. Our focus for the first 9 Weeks. ELA: The Read 180 students will learn the rotations between small group instruction, computer time, and individual reading. They will begin working in their rBooks, taking tests on novels they have finished reading, and working toward the SuccessZone on the computer. The SCALE class will begin reading the acclaimed novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Students seem to relate to this book no matter what their background even though it was written in the late '60s and set in Oklahoma among street gangs. Math: SCALE students will attend math at grade level and then receive individualized instruction using Study Island in the computer lab to reinforce these math lessons. Social Studies/Science: SCALE Students will do the assigned work for these classes to be graded by their team teachers.
