What's Up in the Library? Kindergarten--Continuing with unit on characters in stories with reading of books using Ducks as Characters--Giggle, Giggle, Quack, Duck Duck Goose, How Many Kisses Do You Want Tonight?, and Duck on a Bike. 1st Grade--continuing with unit on how authors develop their own "voice" by how they write. We are focusing on books by Dav Pilkey, including Dogzilla, Kat Kong, Dog Breath--The Horrible Trouble with Hally Tosis, and The Hallo-weiner. 2nd Grade--we are beginning a new unit looking at poetry, with the focus being on why poets choose certain words to put in certain places. We are using poems by the famous poet Shel Silverstein. 3rd Grade--finishing up a unit on looking at the same story told in different ways. We looked at four different versions of the old Cinderella story--Rufferella, Yeh Shen (a Chinese version of Cinderella), Cinderelly, and An Egyptian Cinderella. Before we looked at these stories, we also considered four different versions of the Three Little Pigs--The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, The Three Little Pigs and the Fox, The Three Little Javelinas, and The Three Little Pigs (the Steven Kellog version). 4th Grade--we are working on a unit combining a look at poetry and the poetry of the Harlem Renaissance. 5th Grade--we are working on a unit on Folklore. We are looking at mythology, fairy tales, fables, and superstitions.
