 9/22: Using your information from homework and in class, write a paragraph or two describing Harry in the story "Pappa's Parrot". Focus on EITHER on describing the changes in Harry before and after he came to middle school OR on the changes after he came to middle school but before his father became ill.

 Be sure to give an introductory sentence, information about the plot and a concluding sentence. Write in complete sentences with correct punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

Review the vocabulary for "Papa's Parrot" on p. 24 of the textbook. Really study and know the definitions! Reread the story  EVEN IF YOU THINK THAT YOU KNOW ALL THE PLOT EVENTS AND CHARACTERS!
Go over the plot events and think why did the characters behave the ways that they did?
Remember and think through the open-book test questions that we read through today in preparation for tomorrow's open-book test.
I do have car line duty beginning at 7:40 A.M. tomorrow morning, but if you want to catch me before that to ask a quick question, I will be either in the literature or art room. If you come earlier, tell Mrs. B. that you need to find me to ask a question. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET A GREAT GRADE AND RAISE YOUR AVERAGE!

9/24:  IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE SO YET, SIGN INTO EDMODO. I HAVE STARTED POSTING ASSIGNMENTS THERE AND IT WILL LOCK AUTOMATICALLY ON FRIDAY.

Remember the difference between common and proper nouns. Study vocabulary words and their definitions on p. 24, and be sure that you know the plot of "Pappa's Parrot" in the order that the events actually occurred. Why and how did Harry change in the story? Get the chronological sequence of events right in your mind.

9/25: A. Please reread the story, "Pappa's Parrot" and really know:
1. What are the events in the story and the correct order in which they happen? What happened first, next, etc.
2. Why do Harry and his dad act and respond in certain ways to each other and to Rocky?
3. How does Harry change in the story. Remember that he changed twice. Why? what caused the changes?
4. What is Harry's relationship with hid dad?
B. Review the vocabulary words and their meanings.
Remember how we used context to figure out the meaning of a word in the text.
C. Know what proper and common nouns are. Be able to identify them.
