Writing a persuasive letter or essay.

1.  Start your work by brainstorming strong arguments to support your opinion statement. These arguments will form the topic sentences for the middle of your essay/letter.
2.  Find examples or expert opinions to support your arguments.
3.  Make an outline.  Be sure you have information to support your points.
4.  Use your outline to write your rough draft.
5.  Revise your work using the 6-traits rubric for persuasive essays for your grade.
6.  Be sure you have a call for action at the end of your letter/essay. (What you want readers to do.)
7. Finalize the essay and print it to hand in.

Your outline should resemble this:
I.  Introduction
lead
background information
opinion statement
II.  First point to support your opinion as a topic sentence.
Explanation/facts
Example 
Expert quotation
III.  Second point to support opinion as a topic sentence
Explanation/facts
Example 
Expert quotation
 IV.  Third point to support your opinion as a topic sentence

V. Conclusion
