Essential Question: Who are some of the famous people in our history? Focus Question/Statement: Who are some of the important people in the Revolutionary War? Focus Question/Statement: Think of a major contribution to our history. Project Title: People of the American Revolution Art: Essential Question: Who were some of the Heroes from the Revolutionary War? What was important about them? How can you use what you know about symbols and design to create a mixed media collage that represents a Revolutionary war hero? What are symbols? Week 1- Students discuss Revolutionary War Heroes in Social Studies class (They are assigned their hero and a partner. They begin their research in class.) 1. In the computer lab they learn how to save (in pages) and document images to be printed out and used in their art work. (Using the free County approved sights)- They should be able to get 3 images on a page that way. 2. Students begin to gather information and images about their hero. They are given a handout to fill out as they collect their images (3-5) 3. Image sheets are printed out so that they can use them in their art work. Week 2- Planning their Design 1. Introduction to the elements and principle of art and how we can use a variety of media to create a collage about their war hero. 2. Students begin to cut out images and create a layout for their collage design. (At this time they outline their images for placement but do not glue them until their design is finalized) 3. Students now figure out how they are going to incorporate words and drawn images into their design and sketch it out on their paper. Week 3 and Week 4- Finalizing their Design 1. Teacher Demonstrates how to glue on images and begin to add color to their art work. 2. Using a water and glue mixture the students decoupage their pictures onto the paper (gluing under and on top of the entire picture) 3. Once images are glued on students may begin to use permanent markers to color words and images that they don’t want to smear when painting. 4. Students fill in the left over white space with watercolor paints (colors may or may not have meaning) Technology: Comic Life, Internet research using Safari, Iphoto, Photo Booth, and Pages Objective 1.13 Identify and discuss multimedia terms/concepts (e.g., menu, branching, navigation, multimedia, design).
