Welcome to Miss LaCoursiere's First Grade Class!

Parents,
In Reading, students are learning about diagraphs, blends and clusters, and will soon be introduced to the long vowel sounds. We have also been working hard to use our Reading strategies when reading stories together in class. Please be sure to practice spelling words each night with your child. Spelling Tests are given on Friday's.  In Math we are currently working on Geometry, Chapter 5. The students have been working with solid figures and shapes and have really been having tons of fun! In Science we are studying land, water and air which is Chapter 6. Students are really enjoying the Earth Science unit.  We have also spent some time learning about voting and presidential elections in Social Studies. Students have shared their ideas and thoughts about our new president and have really begun to understand.

As a reminder, the red homework folders travel to and froC school everyday, with the homework packet and homework/behavior sheet, which should be signed daily. Homework packets are sent home on Mondays and are due on Fridays, completed, unless otherwise specified. They will be sent home, marked/corrected the following week.  The yellow Friday folders will be sent home on Fridays and should return to school on Mondays, empty.  All work and papers sent home in the Friday folder is for you to have so you can see your child's progress. Please do not forget to sign the homework/behavior chart on Fridays as well. They will be collected and replaced with the following weeks chart on Mondays.

Thank you to all parents who are helping and supporting their child.

If there are any concerns or questions, feel free to contact me before 9:00am or after 3:30pm by phone. Email also works great; please allow two days for a response. Please call me if it is urgent or you need an immediate response.

Sincerely,

Miss LaCoursiere
