7th grade Keyboarding

and Study Skills!

 with Mrs. Barrett

HELLO RUBY TEAM!

My main goal this quarter is to teach the students to type using all their fingers ~ not just their thumbs and pointers!

The students are doing a great job learning to type! They are having a lot of fun!  So far, they have mastered the letters: f,j,r,u,g,h,d,k,e and i.  This week they will learn: t,y,s,l,b and n.  We have also been doing a lot of study skill lessons.  We are learning a few studying tips, how to organize ourselves, time management and we are filtering all this information into a schedule.  They have done a wonderful job on the past 2 quizzes - quiz number 3 will be at the end of this week.

Progress Notes will be coming home on Friday.  The students might be a level or two higher than stated in my notes on the progress notes - I filled mine in yesterday.

Good job everyone!  Keep up the good work!

The students are all excited and are having a great time learning to type!

If you want to review the keys - look up the flash cards on line on this website!

If you ever need to contact me, you can either leave me a message at the school, or e-mail me at

lbarrett@swindsor.k12.ct.us

IF YOU CAN NOT PRINT YOUR HOMEWORK - SEND IT TO THE ABOVE E-MAIL ADDRESS OR PUT IT ON A FLASH DRIVE AND BRING IT INTO CLASS!  I WILL PRINT IT FOR YOU.

OLD NOTES............................

They will be using the Type2Learn3 typing program.  Each Mission has 1 lesson and 5 activities.  They do each of the activities 4 times each ~ practice makes perfect!  They will learn the right finger placement for they keys two letters at a time.

The students will all type at their own pace so they will all be on different levels at different times.  I am more interested in them learning how to type rather than worry what mission they are on for now.

The students homework will stay consistant, teaching them two letters a night - which is how many they will learn in class as well.  After 4 homeworks there will be a quiz.  The quiz will cover what letters we learned during the past 4 homework assignments.  We will also be learning some Study Skills this quarter.  So, each quiz will cover the Study Skill unit we learned during that week as well.

Looking forward to a great quarter with RUBY!!!

Happy Typing!

Mrs. Barrett
