Homework
Every night your child will bring home a book to read.

READING QUESTIONS TO CHECK YOUR CHILD'S
COMPREHENSION
Before you begin reading you might want to have your child look at the title and cover, then make some predictions about what he/she thinks might happen in the story.
1. Who are the characters in your story?
2. Where and when does your story take place (the setting)?
3. What is the problem in your story?
4. How is it being solved?
5. Does this story remind you of another story, something in your life, or something in the world (making connections)?
6. Why do you think the author chose this title?
7. Find a word and ask your child to tell you what it means using context clues.
8. If you could change this story in any way how would you change it and why?
9. Why do you think that the author wrote this book?
10. What do you think the author meant when he/she used the phrase ________?
11. What is the genre (style of writing) of your book?
12. Point out and discuss the author's use of specific text features like bold print, italics etc.

Your child will have other homework assignments each night including a spelling or phonics assignment. Please be sure to initial your child's planner, reading log, and look over their homework nightly. If your child has not done quality work PLEASE HAVE THEM REDO THE ASSIGNMENT.

Science/S.S./Technology
All three of these subjects are extremely important and will be taught in an integrated fashion. This means we will work on individual skills at times, but the majority of instruction will also involve math, reading, and/or writing skills.

Please refer to the weekly newsletter sent home for specific details on our integrated units of study.
