e The Johnson Family threw a party at their house on New Year’s Eve.
The guest list included thirty-two people; twenty of them were adults and twelve of them were teenagers. The Sheffield’s planned that each adult would probably have six beverages and each teen would have four beverages. One case (24) of beverages cost $10.99 and six packs cost $2.99 apiece.
They also put out many hors d'oeuvres and appetizers. There were 120 pizza rolls, 60 beef Wellington pastries, 45 crab Rangoon, 45 egg rolls, and 30 spinach and cheese pastries. Each hors D’ourves cost on average $2.50 per 15. They also had 4 bags of chips at $2.99 per bag and 48 ounces of dips at $3.00 per pound.
Some of the guests brought desserts. A tray of 96 cookies was brought as well as five cakes. The cakes were two chocolate, one red- velvet, one frozen-mocha cheesecake, and a regular cheesecake. The chocolate cakes were cut into ten pieces each; the red-velvet was cut into 14 pieces; the cheesecakes were cut into eight pieces each.
Using information from the story, your knowledge of graphs and graphing, mathematics, and problem solving do the following 3 problems (you may do them in any order. You may use any book(s) for help.
A) Construct a bar graph that shows the amounts of different appetizers/hors d’ourves served; do not include chips and dips
B) Construct a line graph based on the information given below.
The party went from 6:45 December 31st 2009 until 2.am. the morning of January 1st 2010. At 7 p.m. the number of pizza rolls eaten was 4. Each hour after that, until 10 p.m., the number of pizza rolls eaten doubled. The amount eaten at 11 p.m. was ½ the 10 p.m. amount. The number eaten at midnight was the same as the amount eaten at 8 p.m. The number of pizza rolls eaten at 1 a.m. the tripled from the hour before. At 2 a.m. the remaining pizza rolls were eaten. (Hint: you need to make a table of time & pizza rolls eaten each hour in order to get the numbers you need to graph).
C) Construct a pictograph that represents how many slices there were of each of the 4 types of cake. |
