Homework Hero NEWS:

Homework is required for 1st grade students! I have changed the format of our weekly newsletter, as per parent suggestions (thank you!).

Kindergarden students need to begin completing homework heros.

The format is as follows:

Each time your child completes his/her homework, please initial the box next to the homework list for that day.

Red Hot Readers:

Each 1st grade child brings home a Red Hot Reader folder. You will find a book for your child to read to you, or for you to read with your child. Please complete the form located inside the folder.

**Most of the books I will send are my personal books from MY home library. Please respect my books, as they are my property I am sharing with you and your child. If MY books are damaged, I do expect a replacement or money to replace my property.

The more your child has an opportunity to read, the more proficient  he/she will become.

“Secret Stories” are fun, Storiesories we share with the students to help them remember letter pairs and their sounds. We call them secrets because they hide in words, and our detectives look for them to figure out the word. Here are a few “secrets” we have used secrets so far:

C and K are cousins. They both don't like to be at the end of the line b/c it makes them nervous. So c and k line up together at the end of words, and they say /k/.

“ck”

“sh”

“Sh” loves to go around telling everyone to be quiet. She says “shhhhhh” to everyone she thinks is to loud!

“th”

“th” is sh, wh, and ch's little brother. He runs around sticking his tongue out saying /thhhh/ like this, that, the.

“ch”

“ch” is another brother who loves trains. He goes around saying /ch/ /ch/ /ch/ like a train.

“wh”

“wh” loves to run everywhere he goes, so when he tries to talk he is out of breathe like white, wheel, or what.

“er, ir, ur”

“er, ir and ur” love to drive fast. They have to hit the breaks to stop and make an “eeeeerrrrrr” sound like bird, burn, herd

Mommy “e”

Mommy “e” likes to check on her children a, e, i, o, and u, but she doesn't want them to know she is checking on them. Mommy “e” hides one letter away from the vowel behind a consonant. Well, the vowels are not fooled so they make sure they sit up and say there name when they are called on.
