Welcome to Mrs. Kennedy’s First Grade Class!! Daily Schedule 9:15-12:00 Reading 12:00-12:15 Science 12:15-12:30 Recess 12:30-1:00 Lunch 1:00-1:15 Science 1:15-2:45 Math 2:45-3:25 Social Studies 3:25 Dismissal Specials *This year specials will all take place on the same day to allow teachers the opportunity the plan effectively. *Each grade has their “Specials Day” every six days on a rotating schedule. These days will be listed on your child’s homework/behavior sheet. On this day, students should dress appropriately for P.E. *Students will also have an extra Music and an extra P.E. class within their six day cycle. This will be listed for you on the homework/behavior sheet as well. Daily opening and closing Procedures • In the morning students will: –Unpack their bags in the hallway and hang it on their individual hooks –Put yellow homework folders in their cubbies –Begin writing in their writing journals •At Dismissal students will: –Homework/behavior sheet will be marked with the appropriate color/comment representing each students behavior progress for that day. Be positive Rewards *ticket for the prize box *positive phone call or letter home *A+ grades Colors and Consequences green – on task white: - warming yellow- time out orange- lose a privilege red - phone call or letter home Grading Factors • Assessments 50% May include: oral or written exams or quizzes that reflects the students performance on a summary of a lesson, chapter or unit, as well as BCR’s and problems of the day. • Class work 35% Will include but in not limited to: active participation in whole and small groups, class work assignments (written or oral), projects (individual or group), notebooks and journals. • Homework 15% This includes all work completed outside of the classroom as well as students preparation for class. Assignments can include, but are not limited to: weekly homework packets as well as winter and spring break packets. Report Card Grading Scale P = Proficient Child can reliably demonstrate indicator I = In Progress Child demonstrates indicator with assistance N = Needs Development Child does not demonstrate the indicator T = To be Taught Later Homework and Reading Log • Homework is collected and checked weekly. •Reading Log assignments are weekly and they are graded •Reading Log assignments should be turned in with the weekly homework packet on Fridays. Folders Desk Folders - Students have a RED Desk Folder. This folder will remain in school at all times. -Unfinished and/or uncollected work that goes home the Friday Folder. -These folders are there to help your child strengthen their organization. Friday Folders -Yellow Friday Folders will be sent home each Friday. This folder will contain any information being sent home from the school as well as student work samples. -Students should return the Yellow Friday Folder on Mondays, along with the previous weeks behavior chart.. Everything else that is sent home in the Friday Folder is for home. Homework Folders -Clear Yellow Homework Folders travel to and from school daily -Weekly HW packets go home on Mondays and are returned on Friday -Weekly homework/behavior sheets should be signed by a parent/guardian daily.
