 Welcome to Oak Grove Primary

2011-2012

"Where Warrior Tradition Begins!"

My name is Heather Roland, and I am the Lead Teacher at Oak Grove Primary School. This is my second year as lead teacher at Oak Grove.  I am thrilled to be a part of this close-knit family of educators and look forward to a great year.

School Begins each day at 7:40 am

School ends each day at 2:10 pm

We begin loading our buses at 2:10 pm each day. Our car riders will be dismissed a few minutes before the bus riders are dismissed.

OGPS is a K-1 elementary school located in Lamar County just west of Hattiesburg, MS. We have over 950 students in our school!

OGPS is now a Model School through the Whole School Art Initiative.  We have a Visual Arts Studio and a Performing Arts Studio. Our students are able to have music and art once each week!!!  We are so excited about the wonderful performing arts building that is located on our campus!

We are also so excited about our Healthy Schools Grant through the Bower Foundation. Through this grant we are promoting health, nutrition and exercise. We will also have one nurse on our campus part time. This year health will be taught during our PE time as well.

If you are new to our area and would like a tour of our campus, call or email me. We would love to show you around our school.

 "Warrior Traditons"

Oak Grove Primary School has lots of programs to remediate and enrich learning.

STARS stands for Students Tutored to Accelerate Reading Skills and is a reading remediation program written by OGPS's and OGLE's Reading Specialists, Sylvia Wislocki and Chris Noffke. It is designed to give individual reading help to first grade students. All STARS tutors have undergone specific training in the STARS program and they tutor children in the STARS Reading Labs every day for thirty minutes each under the direction and supervision of OGLE's Reading Specialists.

Scottish Rite Dyslexia Groups

Our Reading Specialists can now assess whether a child shows dyslexic tendencies. If you suspect that your child may have dyslexia, you may obtain a Dyslexia Referral Form from either of our school counselors, Dot Palmer or Frankie Harris or from our Reading Specialists Sylvia Wislocki or Chris Noffke. Up to six children are placed in each Scottish Rite Dyslexia Group. This is a daily one-hour program that retrains children in the reading process. This program consists of 350 consecutive lessons that build upon each other. This program takes two to three years to finish. New groups are added as the needs arise.
