 **************************                       CHESS CLUB INFORMATION            ****************

Welcome to Chess Club from Mrs. Horsley and Mrs. Hoban.  Mrs. Hoban will coordinate the afterschool monthly session and I will facilitate learning new tips and stragies during a monthly in-class session.  She will post the Wednesday afterschool meeting time , dates, and location soon.  The Sign-up sheet for club membership Grades 2-5 are in the classrooms now.  Scores are not recorded during the after-school practice meeting.

This year, we will be meeting in the media center from 3:00 to 3:30 on Wednesdays (not the first Wednesday)

To begin, it will be as follows:

2nd Wednesday of month:  5th-8th grade

3rd Wednesday of month:  3rd and 4th grade

4th Wednesday of month:  2nd grade

September dates:

September 14th – 5th -8th grade

September 21st – 3rd and 4th

September 28th – 2nd

October dates:

October 12th – 5th-8th grade

October 19th – 3rd and 4th

October 26th – 2nd

November dates:

November 9th – 5th-8th grade

November 16th – 3rd and 4th

November 30th – 2nd grade

There is no cost for participating in the club.  We welcome parents who have a knowledgeable experience of the chess game to help during the in-class chess club meeting. Set-up, informal judging, and instructional small group communication would be very helpful.  This club is designed to nurture and encourage a child to learn to love the game Chess. Informal Chess club competition consists of 10 minutes chess blitz rounds.

Afterschool expectations are: Students set their own boards and clean-up/put away at the end.  Parents must sigh-out your child.  Please be prompt when picking up your child.  No younger or non-chess member can "sit-in." Quiet voices during the games.

This session is for all classroom students, but the scores for the chess students will be recorded for Grades 4-5.  Chess members will participate in the spring club photos. They receive a participant club certificate.  Scores will be posted in the Enrichment classroom for the top 5 members per grade.

Parents, please make sure a chess set is ready for use at home. Allow your child to "help" you learn the game as you want to be part of their fond memories of your support.
