The following is an overview of our objectives for the week:

Math:  The students are enjoying the SaxonMath Program! They will be building mastery through daily practice of skills and concepts taught in earlier lessons.  This week we will focus on the following concepts: Practice Test 11A, TEST 11B, Displaying Data Using Graphs (Inv. 6), Remaining Fraction and Two-Step Equations (Lesson 61) and Multiplying Three or More Factors and Exponents (Lesson 62).  Just want to remind you that your child will have a test after every fifth lesson (after Lesson 65).

**Please be sure to practice the multiplication facts at home with your child on a daily basis.  This will help ensure that they are learning and memorizing them for future lessons.**

Science: The students have a new unit on Earth’s Surface.  In Chapter 1, we will be learning about Earthquakes and Volcanoes.  Some questions that we will be focusing on are the following: What are the layers of the Earth?  What causes earthquakes? and How do volcanoes form?

SCIENCE FAIR NEWS & UPDATES

Students should be working on the actual experimenting phase of their project.  They have the rest of this week to finish up their testing.  Please be sure to keep track of the results of the testing in a hand-written log.  When testing is concluded, please begin working on a hand-written graph of the results.  If more time is needed for testing, please be sure to let me know.

Social Studies: Students have begun a working on map skills.  Students will learn to understand the characteristics and uses of maps, globes, and other geographic tools and techniques.  Students will also learn the location of places, geographic features, and patterns of the environment.
