Week if April 9--13, 2012 I hope that you had a FABULOUS spring break. This week will be taking the CRCT. There will be no work outside of class other than continuing to read your AR book. Week of march 26--30, 2012 Don't forget that the buyo-out for Relay for Life is this Friday. You will have a chance to pay $5 per class or $20 for the day to miss class and hang out with your friends while contributing to a great cause. We will continue writing in our journals. Make sure that you complete the daily warm ups and turn these in each Friday. Our SAT test this week will be over Lesson 22 sentences. You will be told who has missing tasks. Please take care of these ASAP. We will discuss clear references, dangling modifiers, persuasive communication, and text organizers. You should continue working on your AR requirements. We will review define and give an example of appositive phrases, gerunds, compound subjects, compound verbs. Who are the protagonist and the antagonis of the book that you are currently reading? We will review plot, basic situation, complications, climax, resolution. We will continue our review blitz for CRCT. Enjoy your spring break! Week of March 19--23, 2012 Report cards will be sent home this Thursday. We will continue with journals and warm ups. We will also discuss cases of pronouns. Don't forget to study for your SAT test on Thursday over the Lesson 22 words. Continue reading and working on your AR projects. The rough draft of your essay is due Monday. We will have classmates proofread these, and then I will peruse them. Remember that your final typed copy is due this Friday. The BOOK FAIR is this week. Remember that all of the proceeds go to purchase more materials for our media center. You should complete Rev. B pgs. 228--229 of the HOLT HANDBOOK. Complete the READING CHECKS on pgs. 372, 386, and 412. These are due Wednesday. We will review the parts of a paragraph. We will discuss tone. The final, typed copy of your LAW DAY essay is due Friday. We will use the mobile lab to review for CRCT. Week of March 12--16, 2012 Happy Fourth Nine Weeks! Today day marks the unofficial start of the last nine weeks of this year. You are almost high schoolers. We will continue with our daily journaling and warm ups. Remember that warm ups are due each Friday. Journals are randomly checked. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the notebook and check for the work you missed. Remember that I am here every day at 8:30, during ELT, and after school until 4:30 to help you with any work. Our SAT tests continue on Thursdays. This week's test will be over Lesson 21. You should know the definition, part of speech, synonym, and antonym for each word. You will receive MISSING TASK REPORTS weekly. Please take care of any missing tasks as soon as possible. AR points start over this week. We will use the same format as last nine weeks. I will distribute hand outs with the instructions for these. YOu must have thirty-five points by the end of the nine weeks and seventeen points by interim. You should complete 2,3,4 on pg. 286 of your lit. book. Your pre-writing for the LAW DAY essay is due Tuesday, and your rough draft for the LAW DAY essay is due this Friday. THe final typed copy of this essay is due on Friday, March 23. We will discuss personal pronouns. You should complete Rev. A on pg. 220 of the HOLT HANDBOOK. You should read pg. 335 of your lit. book. We will read THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK from our literature books. We will continue our intense review for CRCT. You should be able to identify the following terms as they pertain to electronic media: e-mail, database, search engine, keyword, bulletin board, online references. You will receive your Lesson 22 words. Please continue to work on Study Island. Remember that any lesson that you complete will count as extra credit. Make a copy of your score sheet and turn it in to me. All make up work is due by this Friday. Week of February 13--17, 2012 Continue with CRCT review. Week of February 6--10, 2012 We will continue our Intense CRCT review. Week of January 30--February 3, 2012 This week we will continue our intense review for CRCT. Extra credit opportunity--Go to any of the test prep sites and complete any of the language arts activities and print them. Turn them in. Our SAT words this week are from Lesson 19. Students should know the meanings, a synonym, an antonym, and the part of speech that eac word is used as in a sentence. Students will receive MISSING TASK REPORTS on Tuesday. Please make sure that you complete all missing tasks quickly. WE will discuss active and passive voice on pg. 245 of the lit. book. Students are to complete #2 on pgs. 254--255 of lit. books. THis is due in class Tuesday. In the HOLT HANDBOOK, we are discussing agreement between pronouns and their antecedents. Students should complete Rev. E on pg. 169--170. Students must have 17 AR points by next Monday. They have assignments to complete the earn these points. We will discuss appositives and appositive phrases. We will have a test over prepositional, verbal, and appositive phrases on Thursday after the SAT test. We will review LIE AND LAY, SIT AND SET, RISE AND RAISE using lit. book pg.200. Students will read THE TELL-TALE HEART and complete activities on this story. Week of January 23--27, 2012 I am so excited about have a full week with my students. THis week, we will resume our regular schedule. Friday, there will be a test over the Lesson 19 SAT words. This test will also include the author information that Mr. Baxter gave us last week. We will continue writing in our journals. I will take these up on Monday. You should have a NEW journal so that we can finish out the rest of the year. This week, we will begin an INTENSE CRCT REVIEW. We will also be reading THE MONKEY'S PAW in our lit. books. Remember that you should have a minimum of 17 AR points by the time interim progress reports go out. If you would like for your child to work on CRCT review at home, please have him or her log on to STUDY ISLAND. They should know how to do this. It is a privilege to teach your children.
