August 29- September 1

This week students will begin their classroom novel sets. We have 5 book clubs in each homeroom and we will be reading 5 different novels. Your child will have a Book Club Response Packett which he or she will work out of at school. Every day I will meet with each group during reading for 20 minutes. During this time we will be discussing and reading from the assigned novel. I will be giving mini-lessons in the areas of "Main Idea", "Story Elements", "Compare and Contrast", "Figurative Language", "Cause and Effect", and "Inferencing". Students will maintain independent vocabulary logs which will be made up of words from the assigned novel. During reading class students will work on specific assignments generated from the assigned novel. These assignments will entail many writing activities which will incorporate grammar and conventions.

Please ask your child about his/her assigned novel. We will be working on these throughout the next two weeks.

Homework 

Monday- Thursday Night (every week )

The student will AR read for 15 minutes and complete their Reflection Logs. THIS IS PART OF THE READING GRADE.
