STUDENT'S HOME READING LOG
WEEKLY HOMEWORK: All students are expected to read 90 minutes every week. This can be accomplished by reading 15-20 minutes each night. Reading Logs with parent signatures are DUE EVERY FRIDAY. If the Home Reading Logs are due on a different day, it will be noted in the weekly schedule. A new log will be issued when the current log is collected on Fridays.
Reading is a skill and, as with every skill, it requires practice. All Fourth Grade students will participate in the Accelerated Reading Program (AR). Your Reading Log will include a minimum of three Accelerated Reader (AR) Books, within your assigned reading level range, and 80% accuracy or higher on three AR Tests each Quarter. As AR is included in your Reading Grade as a test score, it is essential that you read a grade-level appropriate book thoroughly before attempting to take a test. I will evaluate your progress and adjust AR goals and levels throughout the year. AR books can be borrowed from the Media Center on Thursdays. Fourth Graders may check out two books each week. If you are visiting the Public Library, check out ARBookFind.com. An AR book must be brought to school every day.
In addition to your AR Goal, please choose any other reading material you like: comic books, magazines, newspapers, etc. The purpose of the Reading Log is to practice good reading skills, and to develop reading as a habit.
You must READ, not scan, skim, look at, or read only one paragraph at a time. Your reading will improve only if you practice READING!
Reading Logs must be completed even if you are absent. You already know reading and completing the Reading Log is assigned each and every week of the school year.
You can read longer than required, but you cannot do all of your reading in one night. You must read and document it on the log at least three (3) days out of seven (7) each week.
Parents must sign the Reading Log at least once during the week.
Your regular class work and study time is NOT included on your Home Reading Log.
If you lose your log, please go to schoolnotes.com and print a new one.
Home Reading logs will be graded as a homework assignment. Accelerated Reader (AR) Tests are averaged in your Reading Grade each Quarter.
