Overview of Seventh Grade Language Arts:

1.  Reading:  Students will be responsible for reading a personal selection of fiction and/or nonfiction and filling out weekly reading logs corresponding to school-wide codes.

2.  Literature:  Students will be responsible for reading, listening to, and watching a selection of core works which include poems, short stories, dramas, and novels.  In addition, students will be responsible for participating in a variety of classroom activities that will enable them to understand literary elements (such as setting, characters, plot, etc.) pertaining to each selection.

3.  Writing:  Students will be writing a variety of expository, persuasive, and creative documents, including letters, journals, essays, short stories, and poems.  They will learn the writing process, six traits of writing, and the FCAT essay format (expository and persuasive).

4.  Speaking:  Students will periodically speak in front of class.  These speaking opportunities will include project presentations, oral readings, and others.

5.  Listening:  Students will learn how to listen actively and properly when the teacher and presenters share something with the class.
