Note: SWVGS has a summer camp for rising fifth, sixth, and seventh graders (June 18-22) and for rising eighth and ninth graders (June 25-29). Each class costs $35, with students allowed to take up to four. Registration forms are available at BHES and Dalton--all forms and fees are due to SWVGS (100 Northwood Drive in Pulaski, VA 24301) by April 28.

- September 8--Last day to withdraw from Virtual Virginia without incurring fee
- September 14--Local gifted advisory committee meeting (4:00 p.m. at the School Board Office on Wadsworth Street)
- September 27--Bring signed permission slip and $10 to first meeting of the Brown Bag Book Club (will meet every Tuesday until our play)
- Early October--Counselors visit English classes for PSAT registration (SWVGS applicants must take the PSAT)
- Mid-October--Teachers distribute DEPs
- Early November--Summer Residential Governor's School information distributed
- November 2--8th grade Readi-Step Testing
- November 4--deadline for junior applications to the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program
- November 9--local gifted advisory committee meets at 4 p.m. (School Board Office--open to the public)
- November 10--Critical Thinking Invention Fair
- November 15--AMC 8 mathematics competition (7/8)
- November 16--Brown Bag Book Club enrichment trip to see play
- November 17--Rotation to second trimester Critical Thinking
- November 29--5pm Parent/Student meeting for sophomores interested in applying to SWVGS (RHS library)
- December 5--Summer Residential Governor's School applications due (mentorships and academic academies)
- December/early January--First semester identification complete
- January 11--Local Gifted Advisory Committee meeting
- January 18--Second Semester permission slips for Brown Bag Book Club due
- January 24-February 28 (Tuesdays)--Brown Bag Book Club (Brave New World)
- February 1--Student tour of SWVGS (must have turned in signed permission slip--forms available on the office counter after the Holidays)
- February 7--AMC 12 mathematics competition (RHS)
- February 16--Invention Fair
- February 28--SWVGS application/intent form/NRCC forms DUE
- March 1--Stanford Ten testing of all SWVGS applicants (be in the RHS computer lab at the beginning of 2nd period)
- March 7--Local Gifted Advisory Committee meeting
- March 20--AP registration fees are DUE (pay Mrs. Phillips in Guidance $79 per exam)
- March 27--Visit by Scott Asbury (NASA Project Manager and RHS graduate) in first period Critical Thinking, second and third Honors Chemistry, and fifth AP Chemistry/Dual Enrollment Geology
- April--5th and 8th grade visits to SWVGS
- April 24 (third period) or April 26 (sixth period) students taking AP exams must attend ONE of these pre-administration sessions
- May 7-17--AP Testing (only for AP courses which are currently taught to RHS students) Arrive by 7:30 for morning exams and 12:20 for afternoon exams--afternoon exams may last until 4:30.
