Homework/Classwork

I believe that homework is necessary for practicing skills that have been learned in the classroom, as well as, enriching the overall classroom experience.  In compliance with the guidelines of Harford County Public Schools and CCES, homework will be given to students Monday through Thursday; it will rarely be given over the weekend with an exception to special projects.  If your child experiences great difficulty or spends a lengthy time completing a particular homework assignment, please allow them to stop.  Please contact me or send a note in about their difficulties so appropriate steps can be taken.  If your child is having difficulty gathering information for a project, please have your child contact me at least two days in advance of its due date, so I can provide them with guidance.

Students are held responsible making sure they write down each homework assignment daily.  After they complete an assignment, they need to place it in a safe place to assure they have it in school the next day.  I encourage parents to check your child’s homework each night and to look at their planners daily.  I also ask that you sign your child’s planner every night, so that it comes back to school signed in the mornings. By signing your child’s planner nightly also verifies that you have received my note if I have written in your child’s planner. The planner is a great way for us to communicate with one another throughout the school year. Additionally, I would also ask that parents make homework a top priority providing the child with the praise and support that they need.  It is important to set aside a designated time for it to be completed, to ensure that they have the necessary supplies and to provide the appropriate environment.  Please be supportive and encourage your child to complete assignments neatly and accurately.

I expect each student to complete all homework and class work on their own and to the best of their abilities.  It should be completed, neat and turned in on time.  Any missing homework throughout the week will be noted in the planner. This system of notification assures me that you are fully aware of your child’s homework habits.  If your child continually fails to bring in assigned homework, a phone call will be made to notify you of these concerns.  I expect all homework to be turned in on time.  Although your child will receive credit for late assignments, he/she will be penalized for turning in work late by receiving “N’s” (Needs Improvement)” in the Harford County Public Schools report card section of Work Habits and Attitudes.  Each day a project is late; it will drop one letter grade.  If students are scheduled to have a test or a project is due and school is closed due to weather or any other reason, their test/project will be expected the day school reopens.  If you have any questions about grading on a particular assignment, please feel free to contact me.
