We learned a lot about the election process during October and early November. Everyone enjoyed making posters and listening to speeches made by our candidates. We voted by secret ballot in the voting booths in Mrs. Caudle's room. the winners in our mock election were the Tarheels. We also held a mock presidential vote and the third grade voted for John McCain. Of course, we all know that the country voted for Barak Obama to be the 44th President of the United States.
Using technology to help us learn is a big part of what we do at Bostian. As you know from second grade we are an IMPACT school. As much as possible, we want the students to use project based learning. Some of the IMPACT units that we will use in third grade this year are: Historic Salisbury, The Election, Black History, and Soil.

AR IS IMPORTANT!!
Although only 15 third graders made their goal this first grading period, our class is really working hard to make their next goal. Everyone needs to go to the library often and check out at least 1 AR book. Remember to:
READ READ READ READ READ
I will really stress reading at home and Accelerated Reader this year. Each child is expected to read at least 20 minutes each night on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. I rarely assign weekend homework. Your child is enouraged to choose what they would like to read most nights. It will help them on their test if they will read the story we are working on that week at least once at home. The more AR reading and test taking they do, the better prepared they will be for the EOG. Third graders need to become proficient silent readers. Don't have them read everything aloud to you. Question them on what they have read after they finish reading. Once we start AR, I will keep you posted on your child's progress twice a quarter.

practice after Easter Christmas. There will be more information about this later.
I will keep this web page updated as we go along this year. Check it for important dates and updates about what we are studying. Use the flashcards to keep up with your math, social studies, and science skills. Use the links at the bottom of this page to go to places on the Internet that are kid safe and go along with our Standard Course of Study. I will list vocabulary words at the beginning of each week as well as other homework assignments.
