                                                       September 22, 2008

Dear Families of 3-B,

We are off to a great start. Here are just a few of the things happening in 3-B.
By now you should have realized that 3-B has homework every night, Monday through Thursday night. I have requested that someone check your child's work for accuracy, to sign your child's homework agenda book each night and to look for the green square which indicates that your child was on task for the day. Also listed at the bottom of the page is the "Cycle Day" that we are on for the week. Many of you have been checking your child's work and signing their books and I thank you on behalf of your child who needs this show of interest and support. All agenda books, math Home Links, and reading response books, must be brought back and forth each day.
Beginning the week of 09-28-08 this site will have a page with flashcards for our vocabulary words that we will have completed in school but will need constant review with at home.
All of 3-B students have their password for "First In Math" posted in the front of their "Home Agenda" books. Students are encouraged to use "First In Math" from home at least 3 times a week. It will really help them in their daily quest to master the third grade math concepts.
We have begun our "Star Student of the Week"  for this year.  Our first star student of the week is Matthew Thompson. Each student will have a turn to be the "Star Student of the Week". Each student is given a letter that announces that he/she will be the next star student and a "Star Student News" sheet. The news sheet is  to be completed and returned to school by the date listed in the letter and on the news sheet. So be on the lookout for the week that your child is the "Star Student of the Week."
Finally, we have started our "Star Word" for the week. It is not required that you child know the meaning of the word by the end of the week, however it is suppose to be a challenge to find out its meaning through family members and other sources. A "hook of a story" is read at the end of the week that reveals the definition of the word and a pun. It  gives many of the students the interest to come to school on Mondays just to find out what the word will be  for the week. So please have fun with the "Star Word" for the week.
See you at "Back To School Night"!

                            Sincerely,
                            Mrs. Burkhardt
