Distrubutive Property:
1. Write the problem 6 X 23. 2 Label your second set of numbers (23)- the 2 is in the tens place and the 3 is in the ones place. 3. Write your problem agian using the place value of each number 6 X (20 + 3). 4. Now distrubute the 6 to each number in the ( ). (6 X 20) + (6 X 3). 5. Work your partial products out - 6 X 20 = 120 and 6 X 3 = 18. 6. Now add the two Partial products together 120 + 18 = 138. I know this is a lot of work, but on the MCT 2 it may not ask what is the sum, it may ask what is step three to solving the Distrubutive property and I would like for my students to remember the steps to solving the Distributive property.

UPSIDE Down Cake Method
1. Write the numbers in an upside down cake shape. 2. Look at the numbers, are they both even? If so start dividing each number with the number two. 3. Look at the numbers, is one of the numbers even and the other odd? If so start dividing the numbers with three. 4. Look at the numbers, is one of the numbers a zero or a five? If so start dividing with five. 5. Continue dividing the numbers until you have one of three scenarios. 1- are the numbers 1 number apart? 2- Are both numbers prime? 3. Do you see a 1? I f you see any of the three scenarios mentioned above, then you stop. The prime numbers to the left of the cake are your GCF numbers. Make your "Jewelry" box and multiply the numbers together and put them in the "Jewelry" box. Next, make a great big "L" and multiply all of the numbers in the "L" to get your LCM>

It has been a pleasure having your child in my classroom. I have learned so much from each and every one of them. Next, I want to say how much I will miss my students. It has been a joy to teach these WONDERFUL students. I only hope they learned a little something they can carry with them to the next grade and through out their lives. Finally, thank you for your support this past year! It really means a lot to have dedicated parents.
