Please find below the homework policy for upper level science. SCIENCE Homework: Most homework will consist of answering the end of section questions, the chapter review and tests. Failure to keep up with daily lessons and adequate preparation for tests will be reflected in the student’s grade. Chapter notes are on Schoolnotes and are updated with the change of chapters.
Science Fair Project: Students may volunteer to do an independent science project that involves both research and experimentation. This begins in August and is worked on until completion in January. Specific directions and due dates are given for various segments of the project. These specific dates and helpful hints can be found on the Schoolnotes.com website. Students choosing to do a project will be given 15 extra credit points per quarter for the first, second, and third quarter. All points will be applied at the end of the third quarter and ONLY to those students who follow the project through to completion. These students MUST participate in the Saint Elizabeth Science Fair, the Pittsburgh Regional, and PJAS fairs in order to receive their points.
Lab work: Students are instructed not to misbehave in labs for fear of accidents occurring. Students must listen while the teacher is talking to understand correct procedures. Students are not to fool around and should always remain seated. They may never taste or smell anything without teacher permission. On first offense, the student will be told what they are doing wrong and not to repeat this behavior. Second offense will result in removal from the lab. If any incident occurs upon reinstatement to lab, permanent removal will be instituted. All students must print out, read, and return a signed copy of the Middle School Science Safety Contract. These contracts can be found on the Schoolnotes website. Student safety is our priority during lab instruction.
