Ch 1.1 "The Earliest Americans" This section briefly describes how the first people (called Paleo- Indians) arrived in the Americas. In this section the students will read and take notes on a graphic organizer on: Family life, Food, Clothing, Shelter, Health, etc. on the first "Americans". The Lesson Essential Questions that students should be able to answer after completing this lesson is: 1. How did the first people arrive in the Americas? 2. What was their affect on early MESOAMERICAN culture? Important key terms to know: 1. archaeology- the study of the unwritten past. 2. artifacts- remains of objects made by humans. 3. culture- a set of common values and traditions 4. domestication- the process of breeding plants or animals to meet human needs. 5. environments- climates and landscapes that surround living things. 6. glyphs- symbols that represent ideas 7. hunter-gatherers- people who lived by hunting animals and gathering wild plants. 8. migration- a movement of people from one region to another. 9. socities- a group that shares a common culture.
