The 2nd semester has started and classes are running smoothly. All of my students are sewing except for one period, who due to scheduling and 1/2 days is still measuring their projects. They should be sewing by the end of this week.

Welcome back for the 2011-2012 school year. We had a memorable start with our friend, Hurricane Irene. I hope that those of you who are still without power will be up and running soon!
I am in the kitchens for the first half of the tri-semester so my 7th and 8th grade classes will be learning food safety, nutrition and sanitation the first 2-3 classes. Then we will be reading recipes, creating new foods and learning new cooking techniques.
Ask your son or daughter to either cook one of their recipes or help cook with you. If they do, write me a line or two listing the food cooked and how the experience was. Have your child include their name and period/day and give it to me for shillings and bonus points!
I will be sending out letters next week ONLY for those students who have food allergies so parents can review the recipes we will be cooking. If your child is lactose-intolerant or has other food related issues, we can modify the recipes so they can also join in the cooking experience. Please sign the letter and return it to me.
I look forward to having fun in the kitchens and the sewing room while your children are learning valuable lessons in team work, job sharing, reading comprehesion and math. Please call me if you have any questions.

The Queen of Illing arrived at the media center. Students tasted food and teas from all over the world. Ms. Stepanski brought many items from the far reaches of the world for students to see!
