September 17, 2010 Dear Parents, Next Friday, September 24, 2010, at 10:00 am, you and your childʼs grandparents are invited to join us for a “Tasting Fair” to enjoy samples of recipes as prepared by your children here at school. The boys will be presenting an encore performance of their readers theatre script, “The Bean Boy” for you to enjoy before the food is served. Yesterday in their homework, your son or daughter brought home a recipe to practice reading. (Theirs is the first recipe in the recipe section.) We have been working on reading and discussing how recipes work, and what the directions mean. This is intended to build reading comprehension through teaching the students to picture and even pantomime the steps directed in the recipe. That key skill will help them as they use it in picturing in their minds other passages they read. I will supervise and assist as needed with the preparation of each recipe by the children here at school. Please assist me by sending in the equipment and supplies listed in your childʼs recipe by next Thursday, September 23, 2010. I will refrigerate the cold storage items here at school. If you have a plastic serving tray for your child to present his or her items on, I would appreciate you sending that in too. I hope you and your childʼs grandparents will be able to join us for this opportunity for them to demonstrate to your their developing reading skills. Please RSVP using my schoolnotes contact or my email address by Thursday, so I know how many chairs to set out and how many plates and cups to purchase. Sincerely, Cindy Hall |
