I am so glad you decided to take French! It is a beautiful language. This website is a resource for you and your parents. Assignments will be updated each week. Once in a while an assignment will change. This will be adjusted on the day of the change. EXTRA CREDIT: Fiction books with French themes and words are available to read( will need to also complete questions and have a short STAR conversation) for extra credit. Please see Madame Gifford to find out more information. The covers/titles of the books are posted in the classroom. The books are available at our school library. Poem website: www.wheatonma.edu/academics click on French in the blank of Departments click on home website under French Studies Click on Poetry Anthology Click on "par titre" Click on Le Bonheur (under the B's) BIENVENUE A LA CLASSE DE FRANCAIS! All 6th graders have a separate binder for French or Spanish. Please remember to keep it organized. It should be divided into 1)Homework 2) Vocabulary 3)Handouts 4)Class Notes 5)Songs & Poems. Put in about 20 sheets of paper. Please buy a French/English dictionary to keep at home. Some suggestions are 1)LaRousse- paperback $5.95 2) The Bantam New College $5.95 3)Oxford New French Dictionary 100,000 words $5.95 4) Hachette Oxford - larger paperback $11.95 (excellent but not always easy to find). 5) Harper Collins Robert-4th Edition -large hardcover $29.95 (excellent but more of an investment) Softcover is $15.00 at Borders. Consider it if you have several children taking French and could all benefit). Avoid thin dictionaries or ones with the word "beginner" on it. These are usually very limited. In addition, please purchase some colored pencils for projects and activities. You don't need to bring them to class but to use at home. Homework is listed by the day the assignment is due.(See below). Progress Reports - are handed out mid-way in the quarter to each student. HOMEWORK- POLICY for all grades - As was decided by the Curriculum Council of Glastonbury no late homework will be accepted in foreign language classes 1-12 grade. Ten points will be subtracted for each day a PROJECT is late. If you are absent it would be good to ask a friend to bring home your work or have a parent pick it up at school. USE OF COMPUTER TRANSLATORS is considered cheating. Please do not use them!!! Often they will translate word for word and will not be good French. These do not help you in the long run and it is very obvious to me when you use them. You will get a 0 on an assignment or project. Take this warning seriously as it is the policy of the district. On-line dictionaries are only to be used for a one word definition. These dictionaries are limited which is why I recommend you purchase one of the dictionaries above. I have included two on-line dictionaries in my links if you have misplaced yours or left it at school, etc. Grading:
