During the week students earn tickets for being on-task, paying attention, helping, giving correct answers, etc., and on Fridays we have a little ritual.  We pull tickets for a trip to the Treasure Chest.  It’s a lot of fun and most of the kids really enjoy it.  I usually try to pull two or three tickets per class, and I have four classes.  As you can imagine, it can get expensive!  I am always shopping the sales and looking for items that can be purchased for 3 or 4 for a dollar or less.  In the past, there have been some parents who worked for companies that provide freebies for advertising, and some of these items have helped us out with our treasure supply.  If you work for such a company and have access to appropriate items that you could donate, we would greatly appreciate it.  (No tobacco or alcohol, please.)

Guest Speakers/Presenters - Do you have an unusual or exciting job?  Do you have a special talent or skill that our students would enjoy learning about?  If you or someone you know would like to be a guest speaker in our class, please email me the details, topic, and idea and I'll see how it integrates and enhances our curriculum topics.  Students remember and learn best when they are exposed to a variety of learning activities.  We've had many great visitors to our class in the past and would love to continue this tradition!

Literary Terms -  Your child will be learning and using literary terms ALL year and beyond!!  The study of literature will carry over throughout middle school, high school, and college.  The sooner your child can learn and apply the terms for the concepts we are studying, the better off he/she will be.  Attached below is a practice quiz for the first list of terms your child must learn.  There are quite a few more to come!  Please help your child study!
