Dear Parents,

I am so excited about this year at Blackmon Road Midddle School. I thank God everyday to be teaching at one of the very BEST middle schools in Georgia and with one of the very best faculties!  I can't wait to get to know your child as we learn and explore together this year.  I encourage each student to view every day as an ADVENTURE!  It is my prayer that his/her learning experience will be rigorous, rewarding, exciting and FUN!!!

I try to incorporate games and game-like activities whenever possible to facilitate learning. I use a variety of differentiation techniques to meet varying learning styles, and finally, I try to see the humor in most situations and use humor to my advantage.  Humor is VERY brain-friendly!  When a student's "tickle-box" is activated, the brain is engaged.

Again, I'm looking forward to a FANTASTIC 212 year!  Please read the additional parent information, and if you can assist with class needs, projects or activities, feel free to jump in!

                                                               Sincerely,

                                        Judy Bausch

Odds and Ends
 •  Students should always come to class with their language arts
binder, paper, pen or pencil, student planner and textbooks.  Also, students
are required to bring a silent reading book to class every day.
•  Pencils should be sharpened before class begins.
•  Students may complete work in pencil, blue, or black ink.  Please
make sure work is legible.
•  Five points will be deducted if students forget to put their name on
a paper.
•  There is a classroom library available.  Students may check out one
book at a time by writing the title of the book being checked out and the
student’s name on one of the provided index cards.
•  A school store is available in the media center.

Library Day Participation Grade

Dear Parents,

Starting this Thursday, and every two weeks thereafter, I will be taking the

students to the media center as a class.  This visit will comprise ½ of the

class period on that day.  Students are expected to have their lunch/ID card

and overdue books if they have any.  They are to use this time to check out

AR books, (or other reading materials if their AR requirement has been met),

read silently, and take AR tests.  If students are reading a book from home

or from the public library, they must have that book with them at the time.

Having their lunch card/ID card is a must.  Media Center policy states that

students must have their card in order to check out a book.  One of the grades

your child will receive is their “Library Day Participation” grade.  I am basing

this grade on the number of days during the 9 week grading period that we go

together to the media center as a class and on their preparedness.   For example,

if we go to the media center six times, and they have materials all six times,

they’ll get a 100/A.  Consequently, if we go six times, and they were prepared

five out of six, their grade will be an 83/B and so forth.

Please remind your child to be prepared every day, 212 style!

                                               Treasure Chest

During the week students earn tickets for being on-task, paying attention, helping, giving correct answers, etc., and on Fridays we have a little ritual.  We pull tickets for a trip to the Treasure Chest.  It’s a lot of fun and most of the kids really enjoy it.  I usually try to pull two or three tickets per class, and I have four classes.  As you can imagine, it can get expensive!  I am always shopping the sales and looking for items that can be purchased for 3 or 4 for a dollar or less.  In the past, there have been some parents who worked for companies that provide freebies for advertising, and some of these items have helped us out with our treasure supply.  If you work for such a company and have access to appropriate items that you could donate, we would greatly appreciate it.  (No tobacco or alcohol, please.)

Guest Speakers/Presenters - Do you have an unusual or exciting job?  Do you have a special talent or skill that our students would enjoy learning about?  If you or someone you know would like to be a guest speaker in our class, please email me the details, topic, and idea and I'll see how it integrates and enhances our curriculum topics.  Students remember and learn best when they are exposed to a variety of learning activities.  We've had many great visitors to our class in the past and would love to continue this tradition!

Literary Terms -  Your child will be learning and using literary terms ALL year and beyond!!  The study of literature will carry over throughout middle school, high school, and college.  The sooner your child can learn and apply the terms for the concepts we are studying, the better off he/she will be.  Attached below is a practice quiz for the first list of terms your child must learn.  There are quite a few more to come!  Please help your child study!
