Art Department

Extra Curricular Opportunities

How can I find out about these outside opportunities?

·         The Art Board: located at the beginning of the art hallway, outside of room 149 (Ceramics). All art department activities and club meeting dates are posted on this board.

·         Morning Announcements: Club meeting days, guest speakers and visiting artists are announced.

·         Art Calendar: located on Mrs. Ciarci’s website

What kind of outside opportunities are there?

·         Field Trips to local museums, once or twice a year, open to all art students

·         Guest Speakers from accredited art schools and colleges present information on art careers, art majors and developing a portfolio. Interested students should secure a pass from Mrs. Ciarci.

·         Visiting Artists come for a day or more to create artwork with students. Students act as assistants to the artist who creates a work. Examples are clay artists that work with students to create a school mural or a photographer who works with students and demonstrates proper lighting or a technical procedure.

·         Clubs, after school clubs include Photo Club and Mural Club. They meet after school each week for one to two hours. You don’t have to be in an art class to join.

·         National Portfolio Day, The first Saturday in November, Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. An opportunity for Students to show their portfolio to 40 accredited National Art Schools as part of the admissions process. See Mrs. Ciarci.

·         Art Majors Art Exhibition, Hall Memorial Library, Ellington. Advanced Art Students have the opportunity to present a professional exhibition of their work each June.
