Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to schoolnotes.com. Welcome also to fourth grade in Mrs. Mary Taylor’s Class. I am so looking forward to meeting and working with you and your child this school year. Here are a few important things to keep in mind for the month of September.
Spelling:
Social Studies: Our class will begin our Geography of Maryland unit. We will review map skills and study the Five Themes of Geography. (Location, Movement, Regions, Relationships and Place) Please study vocabulary and review notes in folders weekly.
Science:

Reading: Our class will use the reading series caleed Storytown Winning Catch by Harcourt School Publishers. begin our theme titled “Facing Challenges”. In this theme, our selections will have the students discover the benefits of embracing their own unique ideas, interests, and abilities. They will read about characters and their traits and motivations. Students will learn more about both themselves and others creatively tackling challenges. As they read,the skill of compare and contrast will be devloped well.
We will reinforce vocabulary and use Comprehension Toolkit Strategies. We will also use strategies from Content Literacy.
Writing: Our class will use theWriting Fundamental Launching program for the Writing workshop. Students will learn "to live the writer's life'. Students will be introduced to "how to think, how they work, the kind of books writers create and decisions writers make about content, illustration and more." They will then use these skills to write their own literary pieces. Students will continue to use strategies for proofreading, editing and spelling.
Math: Our class will focus on geometry the unit. The students will become familiar with the termspoints, line segments, lines, and rays, angles, triangles, quadrangles, parallelograms, polygons circle , trangle and hexgon construction.** Keep reviewing basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts with your child on a daily basis.

Remember: Homework should not take more than 45 minutes
please sign that they spent that many minutes on it and stop.
Do they have a "homework spot" free from distractions?
Are they using their time wisely? Have you reviewed their work?
HOMEWORK SCHEDULE
Spelling: 10 minutes - daily page
ILA: 5 minutes - review vocabulary
Math: 10-15 minutes daily work / review facts
Science: Social Studies: 10 minutes - review notes
Reading: 15 minutes read/record/sign

Star Citizen Focus: Manners and Courtesy
Please review your expectations of what your child needs to do to be successful in school.
Please continue to help our class to make great strides towards their organizational skills and study skills. I would like to remind students to share their completed assignments with you to review and then sign homework pad. Please encourage students to begin to manage their time.
Suggestion: set a timer and apply them to life skills such as asking them to clean their room, make their bed, take out the trash, etc. This practice will help them when given time constraints on assignments in class.

Folder colors will be specific to subjects and consistent across the grade level.
