Oh the adorable genius of Calvin & Hobbes. This is one of my very favourites.(via poets-corner:miketoons:lindaboucher:solipsistic)

My name is Mrs. Sumrall and I teach Reading and Language Arts on the Creek team.  I want you to feel safe in my classroom and I want you to take pride in everything you do.  We are going to work hard and I urge you to push yourself to do your absolute best.  You WILL see a difference in your own reading, grammar, and writing before the year is through.  Here are a few tips to make your classroom experience more fruitful:

  • Challenge yourself everyday.  Be determined.  Strive to do your BEST.  I will accept nothing less.
  • Remember that mistakes are good because we learn from them.  The only way to avoid mistakes is to do nothing….and that is a mistake in itself!
  • Listen! It can be fun to talk, but you can learn a lot by listening to the teacher and those around you. Honor them by giving them your attention.
  • Use your allies.  Collaborate with your classmates and with me.  Be willing to help others.
  • Stay organized!  Stay on top of your homework and assignments.  I find it best to do my work right after school, so I can relax the rest of the evening.
  • Be responsible!  Be friendly!  Be kind! You make a difference in each day.
  • Always remember…no one can go back and change the beginning, but anyone can begin today and make a brand new ending.

PARENT NOTE!

Just a quick note to remind you that you can sign up for Active parent at the OGMS website! This is a great way to keep up with what your child is doing in the classroom.

In addition, you can also sign up for my schoolnotes page using the link from the OGMS website! At the school notes page you can find announcements about upcoming events and assignments or you can simply send me an email. You can also email me directly at donna.sumrall@lamarcountyschools.org.

Important news to note!

I want to encourage students to stay current on all assignments. If they are absent for some reason, please try to make up missed assignments with a week of missing.

A way to check on grades, attendance, and discipline is to logon to the Activeparent part of the OGMS website.  If you are unsure how to do this, contact the main office at 601-264-4634.

I am excited to be a part of your child's life. Let's work together to make this year a success!
