Religion
This week we take our chapter test and begin exploring the concept of friendship.  We will discuss how the Catholic Church celebrates saints...Saints - people who lived a good life and loved God,  holy - to be filled with the Holy Spirit and serve God with all your heart.

Social Studies 1
We are identifying the main idea from a printed source.  We then identify and describe characteristics of places (weather and climate).  Next, we talk about how climate affects the way people live.  Vocabulary  -  weather -the way it is outside at certain places and times.

Math 1   .
This week we start with a diagnostic checkpoint.  We then talk about events that take place in the morning, afternoon or night (evening).  We continue by comparing and estimating the length of time it takes to perform each of three activities.  We will then solve problems by reading and using information from a schedule. The week is ended by reading and using a calendar to name the days of the week.
  
Reading  
We do so many things in our reading spectrum!  This week we are reviewing long a words and begin long i.  We finish our story "On My Way to School."  We work with an expository story called "Signs and Symbols."  We then write a silly poem using rhyming words and take our spelling test.  Next, we begin our new chapter  where our theme will be about "Family Fun."  We continue with the -ed and -ing endings.

Handwriting
This week we work on spacing, size and shape.  We finish the letters N and n.

...Terra Nova Testing all this week and part of next week.  Please...early to bed for the little ones and send them to school having a good breakfast.

...Kindergarten Round-Up is this Thursday, April 19 from 6:30 to 8:00.  If you know of anyone interested in our school...pass the word.

...Please say an extra prayer for our second grade as they receive Our Lord for the first time this Saturday and next.

* All homework is to be done neatly.



*Homework papers are labeled with a red "H".



*Stories to be read are marked with the bookmark.



*Homework is to be done by the next day, unless

otherwise noted.



*For the first semester, one reminder for a missing or

incomplete assignment will be sent home. If by the

end of the next day the homework is not returned

completed a demerit will be given.



*Beginning in the second semester a demerit will be

issued immediately for any missing or incomplete

assignment.



*A homework assignment book will be issued in January.
