6th ART ~ 7th ART ~ 8th ART THE VISUAL ARTS TEACH PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS WITH EACH AND EVERY LESSON ! Everything on the supply list has been eliminated!! All that's required is a regular #2 pencil. (A mechanical pencil will not work for shading.) Pencils and block erasers can be purchased in the Art Room for 25 cents each. A donation of $10, cash or check, helps purchase drawing paper, copy paper, paints, brushes, how-to-draw books, videos, construction paper, books on artists, glue, rulers, markers, colored pencils, classroom equipment and much, much more. Whether this donation is made does not affect a student's grade. We appreciate whatever help you wish to give! ~ Grades are based on ~ COMPLETION OF ASSIGNMENTS and EFFORT-EFFORT-EFFORT... NOT on ability or talent!!!
8th Grade students in 2nd and 8th periods are doing a preliminary drawing in 2-point perspective and will then do a final drawing, turning it into an exciting city street. Students who enjoy this type of technical drawing may enjoy a career in architecture, landscape design, interior design or engineering. 5th Period Art students have been designing and painting the benches on the patio of the Art room. Two benches have been painted solid for use onstage during the upcoming 8th grade play. Later, they will be re-painted with student designs. Throughout the 9 weeks, 8th graders work on a "Design Challenge" in their spare time. For this work, they challenge themselves to create a different design in every outlined area of a 12 X 18 paper. They have 9 weeks to complete this. 7th Graders are currently working on creating masks and putting finishing touches on them, either by painting or by covering with foil or tissue paper, comics, etc. A variety of embellishments are available such as feathers, pipe cleaners, buttons, googly eyes and more.
6th Grade art students are making OpArt drawings, using two contrasting colors, such as opposites on the color wheel, to make a puzzle-like design.
STUDENT ARTWORK CAN BE SEEN ON DISPLAY IN THE LIBRARY AND IN THE ART ROOM. Students who were awarded ribbons at the HubFest Children's Art Show were recognized at a recent Lamar County School Board meeting.
If you're curious about my own artwork, I have an exhibit of watercolor paintings and drawings at the Hattiesburg Country Club until the end of April. Half of the exhibit consists of paintings of antique cars from photos taken at "Cruisin' the Coast". These paintings and more can be seen at : facebook.com/MartysArt. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Oak Grove parents and students for 18 wonderful years teaching almost every subject area - including Special Education - and for the last 14 years in Visual Arts, 12 of those years also teaching Drama, in which we staged 2 plays a year. I have collected many positive notes and letters from students and parents over the years that I will re-read often in the years to come, as I will be retiring at the end of this school year. I feel fortunate to have spent 33 years in education and to have ended my career here in Oak Grove. Thanks to all of you! Marty Broadus Ele. Ed., Spe. Ed., M.Ed.~Art, NBCT~Art
