Guidelines for Choosing a Book for Independent Reading I know you are all anxious to see a list of books to choose from for the independent reading assignment, but the truth is, I do not want to limit you to a list. There are too many fabulous books out there and the objective of this assignment is to encourage you to read for enjoyment and to improve your reading skills. Therefore, there will be no "list". All I ask is that you choose a book that is rated at 800 or above on the Lexile database of books. How do you find that out? Bring your book to me and I'll check it for you, or you may go directly to there website and check the database yourself. You will find the address in my links. Happy Reading! "Happy is he who has laid up in his youth, and held fast in all fortune, a genuine and passionate love for reading."
