The "Class Party Project" is due Dec. 16, 2011.

The Class Party Problem Project

I.   THE PROBLEM: Mrs. Thompson formed a committee to investigate sites for a party.  We do not know how many people are coming to the party or if the students can bring guests.

V.  Create a LINE GRAPH showing changes in prices, or cost, of each party as the number of people attending increases.

II.   THIS IS THE INFORMATION GATHERED BY THE COMMITTEE:

Water World:  Swimming, hot dogs

Cost:  $100 to reserve the pool

                                        And $5 per person.

PizzaPi/Movie Plex:  Pizza, drink, movie

                             Cost:  $10 per person

Skate ‘Til Late:  Skating and ice cream (eat before

                             You come).

Cost:  $250 for the first 30

people; $3 per person over the

                              first 30.

VI.  SUMMARY PARAGRAPH:

   Were your predictions correct?

Write a paragraph discussing the outcome versus your predictions.

III.  ANSWER these questions prior to beginning

       the project.

(a)   If price was your focus, which option do you predict would be best?

(b) How could you convince the committee?

(c)  Would it make a difference if the number of people attending changed?  Why or why not?

IV.  TASK 1:

(a)   Create an expression that will help you determine the cost of each party if the number of people coming changed.

(b) Create a table (using your expressions) showing the price of each party if the number of people attending changed.  Use the numbers 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 for the number of people attending in your table.

First 16 due:  Oct. 14

Next 8 due:    Oct. 21

Remainder of Terms Due:  Oct. 28

1st and 6th periods have been assigned a "Vocabulary Project".

Use 5 inch by 8 inch notecards to complete each vocabulary word.  An example of a card and directions to this project have been given to each student to be placed in their binder.

(1) Word in the middle, (2) a definition, (3) an example, (4) list something similar to or connect to the term, (4) find a real like example of where this term or concept is used.   The students should complete 2 a night, Monday through Thursday, until all terms are complete.  They have been furnished a "ring" to place these cards on.  We will go over them each Friday.  The list of terms below will be the ones we begin with, and will be given a "project grade".  There will be 4 components graded per card (as stated above).  We will continue adding vocabulary terms as new units are covered in class.
