  • Rule #1 - A plural noun is usually formed by adding -s to a singular noun.
  • Rule #2 - Nouns ending with -s, -ss, -z, -zz, x, sh, or ch form the plural by adding -es.

Present-Tense Verbs

The words IS and ARE are present-tense verbs.  The word IS is used to tell about one person, place, or thing.  The word ARE is used to tell about more than one person, place, or thing.  Both words tell about actions happening now.

Example for the word IS:  There is one dog at the park.

Example for the word ARE:  There are five people at the park.
