Mar. 26-27: The Weirdo test will be Wednesday, 3/28, instead of Tuesday. It counts on quarter 4. Book 4 answers are due Tuesday and count on quarter 4. Students may use their CAST-P chart on the test Wed. if they follow the rules regarding the chart. There will not be a retest on The Weirdo since students are allowed to use their CAST-P chart. AR points will be due in the middle of April; students had the chance to take an AR quiz today in the media center. Mar. 28-29: Students have started reviewing roots and looking up sample words (and definitions) using the roots. The roots quiz will be after spring break, the following week. AR points are due April 18. **If absent, you owe "The Weirdo" test when you return. April 9-10: AR points are due by April 18. Students should be creating their root dictionary using 2 words that incorporate each root and the definitions for those words. The dicitonary portion which reviews grades 6 and 7 roots is due Thursday, 4/12; the grade 8 roots will be due Monday, 4/16. The quiz on the roots will be around April 17. Students also have literary terms to review for a quiz/test, and we are reading poetry out of a lit. book that stays in class. ****If absent, students will need to read the poetry from class and work on the questions during SMART Lunch. April 12-13: The sample words and definitions for the grade 8 roots are due Monday, 4/16. The matching quiz on all of the roots will be Wed., 4/18. The literary terms test will be Friday, 4/20. The terms will come up again on a poetry test and on EOG's. In class we are working on reading and understanding poetry, and we are working on grammar completers. Students need to make the most of class time when they have to complete the poetry and grammar work. **AR points are due by 4/18. April 16-17: The roots quiz is Wed., 4/18, and the literary terms test is Friday, 4/20. They are both matching. Students have the material to study. The root example words and definitions are due Tuesday, 4/17. We are working on poetry reading and questions in class and grammar completers; this work has to be completed in class. *****AR points due Wed., 4/18****** April 18-19: The literary terms test is Friday; students have the list of terms to study. We have been over examples of the terms in class. We are also working on poetry reading and grammar completers in class. This work has to be done in class. April 23: Prentice Hall p. 77 all 12 questions, those with and without numbers, are due Tuesday. April 24-25: See 4/23. In addition, there will be a retest this Friday for anyone who chooses to redo the lit. terms test. To take the redo Friday, students must bring proof of their extra studying to class. There were many great grades, but since there was no redo on "Weirdo," I decided to allow a redo on lit. terms. Also, study the prefixes for the Wed. quiz next week. April 27: The prefix quiz is Wednesday, 5/2. Students should read Prentice Hall p. 834-841 and answer p. 837 and 841 check comp. #'s 1 and 2 and critical thinking # 1 on both pages. April 30: See 4/27 for info. Also, the yellow EOG sheet from homeroom is due signed 5/2; it has to do with EOG retakes. May 1: We worked on the common piece of reading today which students have to do on their own. The prefix quiz is tomorrow, and the analogy sheet is due tomorrow as well. May 2: The prefix quiz was today for anyone absent. Students need to be sure that they are getting the work from class done which involves books that stay in class. May 3-4: No homework. Students do have work from class that is due. May 7: The 10 verb answers on the handout need to be completed, and you need to bring your EOG plan back to class each day. In addition, you need to have the "Lochinvar" answers we discussed. May 8: The Baseball questions are due Wed., 5/9. Remember to bring your EOG plan with you. May 9: The 10 EOG questions using the vocab. that you received on the handout and also the answers are due tomorrow. You may relate those questions to any of the 4 core subjects. The handout on "Captain" is due tomorrow along with the work from class. You need your EOG plan as well. *****Poetry test Monday, 5/14--"Raven, Lochinvar, Captain, Stopping By Woods," and another poem you read on your own. May 10: The 21 (11 new today) EOG questions and answers using the vocab. you were given are due tomorrow. ***Interims are due signed by Tues., 5/15. ***Poetry test Monday, 5/14 using the book May 11: Interims are due signed. The poetry test was today, and there are handouts that are due tomorrow, 3 of them. The rest of the EOG q. and a. are due using the vocab. You also should have your EOG plan from class. May 15-18: Interims are due signed; they went out last Thursday. Be ready for EOG's this week. May 21: We are reviewing adjectives and adverbs in class, and we are reading "Dovey Coe" in class. There could be quizzes at any time. May 22: We will look back at prepositions, conjunctions and interjections and continue "Dovey Coe." Again, there could be quizzes any day. May 23: We will have a quiz on the reading of "Dovey Coe" tomorrow. There is also a grammar review sheet to do as well as HBJ in class. May 24-25: We continue to read Dovey Coe in class and work on grammar review exercises.
