Learning Expections

for a positive experience!

1. Students must create their own work.

2. Students must know the rules, guidelines, due date and grading requirements of each assignment.

3. Students must be active learners, participants and creators and take responsibility for their own learning, for materials and for their projects and learning tasks.

4. Students are responsible for effort, completion and craftsmanship  for each and every project and learning activity. Good enough is not.

5. Students are responsible for knowing routines, set up and clean up.

6. Students must come prepared, with binder, pen and notebook and homework.

 Art Room Procedures

1.                Entering the classroom – warm-up activity

  • Come to class on time with required materials ready to work.
  • Place your bookbags as directed, nothing on floor.
  • Begin the daily warm-up activity which will be on the board or by default, silent object drawing in your sketchbook.
  • There is NO talking during this time.

2.                Directions and Discussion (D&D)

During this time, I will be giving important directions or demonstrating something you will be doing that day. The day’s objectives will be given and major concepts will be discussed. Please no talking during instruction time.

3.                Studio Time

Your independent work on your projects will take the majority of the class time.  While I expect a low noise level, you can talk to your classmates as you work or get out of your seat as needed for supplies.

Behavior and effort. Points will be earned each day. A student has a maximum of 2 points per day.

You will be graded according to the following rubric:

2-Worked the entire class period, was respectful and cooperative, followed all class rules.

1-Worked part of the class period with more than 10 minutes of down time, or was disrespectful or uncooperative and did not follow some of the rules.

0-Did not work, wasted more than 30 minutes of class period, and/or was disrespectful/uncooperative or did not follow the rules or needed multiple prompts to work.

Automatic zero for anyone receiving an office referral.

4.         Cleanup and Closure (C&C)

The last 5-10 minutes of class are for cleaning up. Everyone is responsible for cleaning up their own work area and leaving it cleaner than they found it. All class supplies should be returned in their appropriate place.  Sometimes I may need to review some major concepts in C&C and other times we may have a quick in-progress critique. The bell does not dismiss you from class, I do. Absolutely NO lining up at the door!!!
