![]() Language Arts We are beginning a new theme: Amazing Animals. In this unit we will read Officer Buckle and Gloria, Ant, and The Great Ball Game. The strategies we will study in this unit includes summarizing, questioning, and to monitor/clarify. While reading these fiction/non-fiction stories we will also work on drawing conclusions, text organization, and cause/effect. Your student should be reading nightly and should also have opportunities to read out loud to build fluency. It is just as important that your student is read to on a regular basis which allows them to hear fluent reading. Writing In writing we continue to work on writing the small moment. The small moment should include a beginning, middle, and end. The students are learning to revise their stories not only to find errors but adding and deleting text. Math We will continue to work on double digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. The students will also use calculators to check their work. We will begin a new unit in Geometry working with shapes, symmetry and congruent figures. And finally we will study time. Your student should be studying addition and subtraction math facts to 9 five minutes nightly. There are many students who have not yet memorized their math facts. This slows them down during daily work. Science We continue to study matter and the changes in the properties of matter. We will conduct experiments to show reversible and irreversible changes in matter. Once we conclude the matter unit we will begin our study on sound.
Social studies We are completing unit 3 on analyzing how individuals, families, and communities are alike and different. In this unit we have studied customs, traditions, and the different roles we play in society. Once we complete unit 3, we will begin learning about economic concepts and resources.
