Shark Students and Parents,

The Shark Team has been diligently working on our Big 6 project, "Profiles in Courage".  Each student is researching an important American in history.  Students have visited the Media Center and computer lab numerous times through Language Arts and social studies classes to create source cards and note cards related to "their person".
Important notes about the research project:
*Monday, October 19:  The rough draft of the research paper is due!
*Tuesday, October 20:  The Keynote presentation must be finished by the end of the day on Tuesday.  After-school Keynote work sessions will be held Monday, Oct. 19 and Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 2:30-3:30.
We are proud of the progress that many of our students are making researching amazing people in American history!

We are also journeying to the time period of attempted colonization of the New World... specifically the English attempts to settle Roanoke Island (in present-day NC) during the late 1500's.  We have "met" Queen Elizabeth I and learned some interesting information about her life.  We also have "journeyed" with Amadas and Barlowe to Roanoke Island.  Our travels will continue!  Have you ever heard of the Lost Colony?  That's where we are headed!

I encourage students to discuss our studies at home
with parents.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Reminders:
*Send in items to support our soldiers overseas!  We are collecting items to support Kenny Martin (Zack Martin's dad), Anthony Powell, and other soldiers in Iraq.  We need:  Twizzlers, Peanut M&M's, breakfast/granola bars, magazines, Lance crackers, hard candy, gum, and toilet paper.  (No chocolate except Peanut M&M's...because of melting issues!) Please send in items for our first care package by Fri., Nov. 6.  Thanks for supporting our American soldiers!!!
*US Whitewater Rafting Center trip information was sent home this week.
*On Monday, Oct. 26 pay $1.00 to wear something pink and a pair of blue jeans.  Support cancer research/awareness!
*Order a yearbook for $35.00!
*Do your best everyday!

Let's work TOGETHER for an awesome year!
Point to Ponder:  Anyone can stand out, but it takes courage to be outstanding!

Truly,
Mrs. Chrissy Blackwell
