Language Arts Mrs. Hawk The Scholars Team Welcome to 7th Grade! Students should be reading a minimum of twenty minutes each night and recording the information in a reading log. Our emphasis in Language Arts is in reading and writing. This semester we will read "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto, "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes and "Names Nobres" by Judy Alverez and several other short stories and essays. We will focus on many writing assignments such as character diaries of characters from the selections that we have read, story boards, reflection papers, narrative essays and of course, grammar and punctuation practice. Students have written a Bio Poem about themselves and will have the opportunity to write class poems, alternate endings and short stories. Every day students are responsible for writing about the journal prompt in their writer's notebooks. We are also using "Word Skills" to learn how to look at the parts of words and then how to figure out their meaning.
