1st Grade

Mrs. Blend

Information contained on this page will be updated as needed. Therefore, it is subject to change.

11/6/09

I have added a book list at the bottom of this page.

Homework for tonight: Complete the math worksheet, read, and practice your spelling words! Please neatly write the title of your book on your reading log without your parent's help. Continue to have your parents initial your log for full credit.

On the math: Complete the front. On the back, create a tally chart using the dishes and utensils at the dinner table (after dinner). After your have created a tally chart, create a subtraction problem using the chart. For example:

If you have four bowls and three plates, how many more bowls are there than plates? Write the problem either vertically or horizontally and answer the problem.

Please help us represent Our Lady's School to the best of our ability. Our students may earn a spirit shirt and jeans day to take place the last Friday of the month if they come to school in complete compliance of the dress code as outlined in the student handbook (this would include belts, ties, and sweaters). Because our class is so young, we will need your help. I will begin sending uniform violation notices home November 2nd. Thank you for your involvement. Please check the handbook for uniform

Remember to fill in the reading log every day for full credit. This is for a grade. Even if your child is ill, or if we have a half day, the reading log should be turned in complete for your child to receive full credit with the rest of his/her makeup work.

  Every Night:

Please have your children read with you this evening and fill in their reading log (yellow folder).

Your child has a spelling list. Please have them spell the words to you. We will have a test on Friday. I have gone over ways to study spelling words. Here are some ideas:

1. Have the student spell the words out loud.

2. Have the students write the words as you call them out as a practice test. Assist them with only the format of the test to see how they do.

3. Write part of the word and have them fill in the missing letters.

4. Write a sentence for each word (as able - phonetic spelling the rest of the words is a good start.)

5. Break up the list into smaller pieces.

6. Have them identify words that are on their list as you read with them for their other homework so they can make connections! :)

Reading time activities:

Have the child identify beginning, middle , end.

Have your child tell you how the story could have ended differently.

Have your child act out a part in the story.

Make comparisons with other stories or events.

Have your child ask you questions.

Please check your child's yellow folder daily to keep up with assignments and notes.

We are currently experiencing problems with this site. Please accept my apologies. I will do what I can to take care of the problem as soon as possible.

                                                    Reminders

I will update this site at least once a week, and if you sign up to be notified of any changes, you will stay informed of any announcements as they are added.

Please remember to have your child wear the appropriate uniform to school every day. Please see the parent handbook for details.

Just a reminder that the papers that have a "K" written on them do not need to be returned.

 Homework

 and Makeup Work

Spelling lists will be sent home and posted on the website. All other makeup work will be given to the student upon his/her return (with the exception of prolonged illness).

Homework is designed to accomplish two things in first grade:

1. It should help the child learn organizational skills and study habits appropriate for their level. Therefore, it is important for homework to be completed on time and returned by the due date.

2. It should reinforce academic skills and/or allow extra time on assignments not completed in class due to illness or Dr. appointments.

Your child will receive a homework folder that will contain any homework or review work to be returned the next day. It will also contain a communication chart. If there are any notes that I need to send home that reference behavior, special communication, or other information that happens not to be included in the monthly brown envelope or website, they will be found in this folder. Please check this folder daily.

If you would like to send a quick note to me, you may do so by e-mail from this site or respond on this chart. I would ask that any serious concerns be addressed during a scheduled conference time. I will send home a schedule that will show my available conference times.

Please review any work that is sent home with your child, as well as their behavior sheet. This is a great way to stay informed of the daily activities of your child and it also helps generate conversation about information your child has learned. Your child will be asked to write a "K" on the items to be kept at home.

Thank you for entrusting your child's first year to me, and for allowing me to serve Christ by serving in this ministry.

God Bless!

Book List:

This is a list that should help in selecting a just right book for your child. There may be some books listed that have not been reviewed by ICCS. It is simply a resource tool.
