Welcome to

Mrs. Parrish's

Webpage

As you know, the last few months have seen unprecedented budget cuts to federal, state, and local funding for education.  Because of this, schools are finding it very hard to get all the supplies they need.  Here are some things you can help provide to our classroom so we can continue to learn!

ream of copy paper (white or pastel color)

gift certificates for Staples or Office Depot for ink cartridges for printer

thinking games (Boggle, BrainQuest cards, etc.)

Kleenex

Hand Sanitizer

individually wrapped candy for rewards

bookmarks, erasers, and pencils for rewards

I hope you will enjoy everything you see on my webpage and that you will find it useful. Please remember that you may e-mail me by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

About Your Teacher:
I am 43 years old and this will be my 23rd year of teaching. I have always taught at Faith in either 3rd or 4th grades. I enjoy watching students learn and grow daily. I am very active with Locke Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician.

These are our newest trucks.  These trucks are called brush trucks.  We use these trucks to put out fires that are in tall grasses or woods.  Both of the trucks have a water tank in the bed with a roll of small hose called "forestry hose".

At any time you can see what your child will be learning this year by looking at the
Third Grade Brochure.

Character Education Word
of the Month:
Respect

There will be no school on the following dates in November:

11th, 25th, 26th, 27th

We will be having another Early Release Day on November 24th.  Students will be released at 12:30.  Please let me know if your child is going home a different way or with someone else!

We will be traveling to Horizons for 2 programs on Monday,
November 9th. We will be studying the Rainforests and the Earth and Moon.
Please use the Spelling City link to access our spelling lists each week.  Each one is listed there.  Just look at your child's vocabulary list to know which story we are covering.  The title is supposed to be at the top of the page.

Taking the time to read each night for the assigned time is very important to your child's success as a reader this year!  The children who read each night on a regular basis showed a year's growth in their reading levels since the first quarter!!!  You just have to be wiling to make the commitment and make sure your don't let your child make excuses about not having time to do it!!

Please take time to look through your child's
Thursday Folder when it comes home.  Inside you will find:
1. papers your child completed in class,
2. papers your child completed for homework,
3. announcements from school

School Schedules:
School begins: 8:30
Lunch: 11:30 - 12:00
P.E. - 8:45 - 9:30 (Wed.)
Music - 8:45 - 9:30 (Thurs.)
Art - 8:45 - 9:30 (Fri.)

1) Read every day!  Just 20 - 30 minutes of practice each day will increase your reading ability unbelievably!
2) Get your agenda and reading log assigned each night.
3) Make sure your homework is completed each night.
4) Use your Thursday folder papers to review any skills that may be weak.  This also gives your parents a great way to see what you've been doing all week!

Spelling tests made easy
Use this address to help you study for spelling tests by playing games and taking practice tests.  Use the word list for the story we are reading in our reading book.  Click on "Find a List" at the top of the new page and enter my last name (Parrish) when asked to do so. A list of teacher's names will appear and you will have to pick my name - Mary Anne Parrish.

Don't forget to send boxtops and Campbell Soup labels to school whenever you get them collected together at the house. Remember you can ask all your family to help!

Don't forget to remember those students

whose parents are deployed overseas

protecting us. Just as we support their parents, these

children need our support, too.
