Week of May 31: Tuesday: If you have not "graduated" from WW Book 6, make sure you are ready to do so tomorrow. Wednesday -- Friday: grammar and punctuation review. Study your WW words for the test. Special note: A few of you have not turned in your book reviews. You are losing points, so please follow through ASAP. Week of May 23 Monday -- Write your introductory paragraph. We will read some paragraphs out loud tomorrow. Tuesday -- Write your concluding paragraph. You now have all five paragraphs for your book review. More than five is fine, too. Decide the best order for your body paragraphs and paste all your paragraphs into the same document if they are not together already. Wednesday -- Self-edit your book review, then read it to a parent or friend. Make sure you have smooth transitions that link your paragraphs together, an interesting introductory paragraph, and a strong conclusion with a snappy "kicker." You will find book review tips in your class folder and at the bottom of this homework page. GIVE YOUR BOOK REVIEW A TITLE, HEAD IT PROPERLY, AND PRINT IT OUT AT HOME TO HAND IN ON THURSDAY. Use Times New Roman 12-point font. Thursday -- Finish WW A-D in Lesson 20 if you have not done so in class. Study words for a contest tomorrow! Friday -- WW A-E, Lesson 20, due on Tuesday. Forty minutes of reading in your novels; if you have finished your latest novel, make sure you have a new one for next week. Week of May 16 Monday -- WW Lesson 19 quest is tomorrow. Three book review paragraphs are due on Monday: character, plot, and theme. You will write the intro and conclusion paragraphs next week. Instructions for the paragraphs: -- You will need a paragraph for each of the following: plot, character, and theme. -- You may choose the order for your paragraphs. -- Remember that this is a book review. Analyze the literature and give your opinion! -- Please type your work in Times New Roman 12. -- Please "self-edit" your work. Check your sentence structure and punctuation. Read your work out loud to a friend. "Listen" to your sentences and make them better. -- When you return, you will show me your "body" paragraphs. Then, you will work on your introduction and your conclusion. When you are finished, you will have a five-paragraph book review. (In some cases, you may have a few extra paragraphs. That is fine.) Week of May 9: ERB testing this week. Monday -- at least 20 minutes of reading in your assigned novel Tuesday -- at least 20 minutes of reading in your assigned novel Wednesday -- at least 20 minutes of reading in your assigned novel Thursday -- write your character paragraph for your book review (6B will do this in class on Friday) Friday -- 6A: write your plot paragraph (due on Monday) ... 6B: finish your character paragraph and write your plot paragraph (due on Monday) Coming up: WW Lesson 19 quest on Tuesday Extra credit/optional: You may begin work on an original drawing, collage, painting or other piece of artwork that thoughtfully illustrates your novel. You may NOT use the computer for any piece of this illustration. A rushed piece of work will not be accepted. Due date: anytime before trimester tests. Week of May 2: Monday: -- Write a story using at LEAST six of the following words (they are also posted to your class folder). Look up any words you don't know. WORDS: isolated...strewn...victorious...relinquish... vibrant...revolution...sufficient...resistance...briefly...menacing Tuesday: -- WW 18 Quest tomorrow Wednesday: -- 25 minutes reading in your novels; some of you will need a note from your parents Thursday/Friday: -- do the worksheets you received on Friday -- read for at least one hour this weekend ... great time to get ahead in your book! If you are in your second or third book, please keep a log on that book. -- Thursday/Friday: WW Lesson 18 A-E. If you need to catch up in your reading, this is the perfect time to do so. Week of April 18: Monday: WWE, Lesson 17 Tuesday: study for punctuation test tomorrow by doing 1-25 on pages 288 and 289. Wednesday: study WW17 for contest tomorrow Thursday - Friday: read for at least one hour and write a book log summarizing the last two chapters you have read. In your book log, make a note of any questions you have about the plot, characters, or themes. Book review assignment coming up. Week of April 11 - April 15: Monday: Write a poem using FIVE of your WW 16 words. Poems should be typed and presented neatly. We will be voting on our favorites.
